When Emma Clark discovered her STEM studies weren’t a good fit, she felt one thing—panic.

Then she discovered the Editing and Publishing major in the Linguistics Department. She took a few classes and knew she’d found the right path. “I’ve always enjoyed writing, not necessarily for fun, but writing for clarity and in a way that presents my ideas well.”

Eager for real experience, Clark applied for a paid internship at the BYU Religious Studies Center—an opportunity made possible through donor funding. The job not only provides valuable experience but also helps support her young family as she and her husband pursue their degrees.

“I came to BYU on a scholarship, which was very helpful. Being able to work and earn money while getting experience that will help me get a job may be even more helpful,” she says.

Clark appreciates that BYU students are here “because people have given so much for us to be here.” She adds, “It is difficult for donors to see the impact donations have on individual students, but it is really easy for students to see how great an impact they have on us.”
